In the Spring of 2026 Superintendent Reid in response to School Board action, established the Educational Technology Review Committee (ETRC). This committee will develop recommendations for the Superintendent in several key areas by assessing the division's current practices, as well as monitoring emerging developments in educational technology (such as artificial intelligence) that could position FCPS to meet the goals of the strategic plan. The committee will also provide recommendations to the Superintendent to enhance the responsible, effective, equitable, secure, and developmentally appropriate use of educational technology. Areas of focus: 1. Student Accesss, 2. Student Technology Usage, 3. Staff Professional Learning and 4. Instructional Practice, Communication.

Provide input on a plan for "the technical and operational feasibility of allowing elementary, middle, and high school students with a documented medical or developmental need to opt out of the use of FCPS-issued laptops and tablets”. (Elementary and Secondary) Main Motion #5
Provide input on plan for “a pilot program to implement a tiered, positive-list (whitelist-only) firewall architecture for FCPS-issued electronic devices at two elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools”. Main Motion #4
Provide input on plan for “a plan to implement network-level filters to block direct student access to the YouTube platform for all students in PreK through 8th Grade while utilizing school networks or FCPS-issued devices; while providing instructional YouTube content that is directly embedded by a teacher within an approved educational platform, presentation tool, or learning management system.” Main Motion #7
