On August 27, 2026, twenty-two Virginia parents, teachers and community members spoke at the Virginia Board of Education Meeting in Richmond.
Testimonies covered the legitimate and passionate concerns so many of us have about screens, overuse of 1:1 devices, and the harm these choices are having on young learners within FCPS. Board member Ida Outlaw McPherson asked where the board stood on classroom technology and what is coming next. Board member Dr. Aaliyah Maxwell said she appreciated the consistency of our message, that constituents want the board to pay attention, and that this "warrants additional and further conversation." They also discussed the shift to digital high-quality instructional materials as something to look at more closely.
The next upcoming state school board meeting will be on September 24, 2026. If you have interest in learning more about state level advocacy, please reach out to Katya Dimenstein, k.dimenstein@gmail.com
